WHAT A MARVELOUS ACHIEVEMENT WITHIN 2 YEARS OF PROF FARUK HARUNA RASHID IN FCE, KONTAGORA
PROF. FARUK RASHID HARUNA: TWO YEARS ON THE SADDLE
Every organization or institution that is thriving is obviously blessed with a good leader. The Federal College of Education Kontagora is indeed thriving because a man with a remarkable ability is at the helms of affairs. That person is Professor Faruk Rashid Haruna the Wakilin Makarantun Zauzau Suleja.
Since he assumed duty as the Provost of Federal College of Education, Kontagora on the 23rd April, 2018, the College has witnessed monumental and unprecedented development in various areas, including academic activities, physical and infrastructural as well as students and staff wellfare.
A) EXPANSION OF PHYSICAL INFRASTRUCTURE
Between April 2018 to date when Professor Faruk Rashid Haruna took over the mantle of leadership as the Provost, the College has witnessed more infrastructural development in the following areas:
i) Construction of two Lecture theaters for the Schools of Secondary Education (Science and Language programmes), under construction.
ii) Construction of two blocks of staff offices(one storey building) each for the School of General Education and School of Secondary Education(Arts and Social science programmes), under construction.
iii) Reconstruction of the burnt Home Economics Department building.
iv) Reconstruction and renovation of Chief Lecturers' offices.
v) Construction of tractor shade in the the Agricultural Education Department
vi) Construction of Geographical garden with Laboratory weather station and Biological garden as well as Fish pond and animal house.
vii) Renovation of a block of male students' hostel.
viii) Completion of lecture theater in the School of Secondary Education (Arts and Social Science Programmes), under construction.
ix) Construction of 1.5 km fence to guard against illegal encroachment as well as provide security for the College.
x) Construction of model office complex at the Business Education Department
xi) Renovation of the Provost's office and the on going work in the conference hall.
xii) Construction of a new Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Center (under construction).
xii) Construction of modern toilets for students.
B)PROCUREMENT OF TEACHING FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT
In addition to physical infrastructural development, the College has also witnessed progress in the area of procurement of academic facilities. Laboratories, workshops and studios were stocked with relevant chemicals, computers
and machineries to aid effective and efficient teaching and learning.Also, new electronic boards, computers and magnetic boards were procured for classrooms, micro- teaching laboratory and ICT center. Similarly, new furniture items were procured for the School of Early Childhood Care and Primary Education (ECCE&PED).
C)EXPANSION OF ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES IN THE NEIGHBOURING COMMUNITIES
The expansion drive of Professor Faruk Rashid Haruna is not only limited to physical infrastructure. The Provost has introduced the National Certificate in Education (NCE). Distance Learning programmes in some neighbouring communities. This is to bring education to the door steps of the people of the community.
Furthermore, the College is into discussion with the management of Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto and University of Ilorin for the possible mounting of B.Ed programmes in the College. Discussion on this proposal has already reached advanced stage.
Prof Faruk Rashid Haruna is also working tirelessly to see that FCE Kontagora is raised to the status of University of Education. Presently, the bill for the upgrade of the institution to the status of University of Education has passed second reading. We are hopeful that very soon we shall celebrate this feat.
C) IMPROVEMENT OF STAFF WELFARE
With the support from the College coffers and the judicious use of TETFund intervention funds for staff training and development by the College Management, Professor Faruk Rashid Haruna has been able to increase the academic and professional capacity of the College workforce. This has been made posible through sponsorship of staff for Post graduate programmes and academic conferences for teaching staff and professional training and workshops for all cadres of administrative staff both locally and internationally.
To boost water supply in the College,
Professor Faruk Rashid Haruna has dug bore holes in the College. Solar powered bore holes have been sunk in the Schools of Secondary Education (Language and Vocational programmes) and the students' hostels
Similarly, solar powered lights have also been installed by the Provost to illuminate the campus at night. This is to further guard against insecurity on campus.
While Close Circute Television (CCTV) were also mounted for surveillance all over the campus.
Congratulations Professor Faruk Rashid Haruna on your two years anniversary today as the Provost of FCE, Kontagora. It is a thing of joy that you have introduced significant changes in the College. This is an affirmation of the intellectual bulldozer that you are. An academic collossus, a foresight leader and an astute administrator.. Many more years of relevance to you sir.
