The Legendary of Queen Amina of Zauzau. A woman of Substance in History

Queen Amina of Zaria was born in the middle of the sixteenth century to king king Nikatau the 22nd ruler of zazzau, and the queen Bakwa Tarunku.

Amina of Zaria had a younger sister name Zaria for whom the modern city of Zaria ( kaduna state) was renamed by the British in the early twentieth century.

Amina grew up in her grandfather court and was favored by him.

At age sixteenth Amina was named magajiya ( heir apparent) and was given forty female slaves.

She waged war in the hausa lands and took them all so that the men of katsina and the men of Kano brought her tribute.

She in ade war in bauchi and against the other towns of the south and of the west so that her possession stretched down to the shores of the sea( i e the Niger).

She created trade route throughout northern Africa.

She also introduce kola nut cultivation in the area.

Amina of Zaria ( 1533 - 1610) Commonly known as the warrior queen.

Amina of Zaria was the first woman to become the sarauniya ( queen) in a male - dominated society.

Amina of Zaria was the first warrior queen that led men into battle.

Queen Amina of Zaria during her reign, expanded the territory of the hausa people of North Africa to the largest borders in history.

Queen Amina of Zaria ruled for 34 years before her death accordingly to the legend.

Queen Amina of Zaria was killed in a millitary campaign near Bida, Nigeria.

Queen Amina of Zaria statue is located at the national arts theatre in Lagos State, Nigeria.

More than 400 years later, the legend queen Amina of Zaria became the model for a television series about a fictional warrior princess, called Xena.
