Advice to Gov. Yahaya Bello on Imam Leadership in Ebira Land

His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Most Beneficent

Your Excellency Sir,

let me use this medium to appreciate you on your efforts on security in the entire Kogi State and the efforts you are putting to resolve the Imam ship in Ebiraland May Allah give you more strength and light to do more.

The Holy Prophet (s) before his demise has guided humanity in all aspects of life. He never left the issue of imam Ship untouched.

Today in Ebiraland on the issue of who has the qualities to be the next Chief Imam, people are of different mindsets, hearts are divided. May Allah, the Almighty give you the foresight and wisdom to search for not only a learned man but a learned man that will contribute to peace, unity and stability.

People are of different perceptions relating to this tussle of Imam leadership  some people think that knowledge is enough to take the key. While others say No. They consider the first opinion negates the teachings of Islam.

This latter viewpoint hold that knowledge with competence is the only key to Imamate because history have recorded a lot of learned men that are violent, impatient, immoral. History recorded a lot of learned men who never love peace and unity; and at that drive their community into spiritual backslide, anarchy and chaos.

Which of these viewpoints is more guided? Of course, the second view because if a learned man who never love peace and unity among Muslims is given a key to leadership, he will cause chaos in the land. So, the most competent among the learned men are those that possess the qualities of leadership. They are those that can hold and maintain it.

Competence as it concerns clerical leadership comprises of many qualities; which includes sound Knowledge, fair judgement, patience, simplicity and the most important of all these are love of peace and unity, respect for sanctity of life and sacred places.

Ebira people are one family. A learned man that will hold the key of it's Central Mosque must have these qualities to earn the trust of his society and faithful.

When I watched a video of a popular learned man instigating his followers that their patience has become foolishness, I understand that if a proper measurement is not taken, there will be chaos soon or later.

SayyidinaAli (r.a) said: The position of the head of government or any institution is like that of the thread connecting beads and holding them together, if the thread cut away, the beads will disperse and be lost.

Your excellency, may Allah the Almighty support and strengthen your heart to see a good end to this matter. Wherewith I advice you to explore the following two options:

1. That, dear Governor, you form a committee of spirited individuals; comprising of intellectuals, unbiased citizen of clerical insights from our great land and those capable of rationality within and outside your cabinet, give them a task to search for a learned man having these qualities listed above within a stipulated time, give him the mandate of Imamate and use your position to support him, by doing this, peace will reign in our blessed land.

If at the end of the given stipulation, the committee is unable to provide a competent learned man to take the spiritual task for one reason or the other, then your Excellency can move to explore the next Option.

2. That today in Ebiraland, we have three main Muslim sects, which are Tijaniyya muslims (the followers of Shaykh Ahmad Tijani), Shia Muslims (the followers of Holy Household, Ahlulbayt (s) and Izala/wahabi Muslims (the followers of Mohammad Ibn Abdulwahab). Each of these sects called itself Ahlulsunna.

Ask each sect to search in their midst and present representatives having these aforementioned qualities as listed above to represent and partake in the proposed examination.

Dear Governor, a panel of examiners who will oversee and conduct the examination must be unbiased. Their mission must be nothing but to help your course, give the best for Ebiraland. The first position becomes the Imam, the second position takes the first Naibi and the third position takes the second Naibi.

They must work together, they should realise that a community that unites develop rapidly. Fighting and segregation will bring nothing but retrogression to our blessed society.

Our Allah is one and the same, our Qur'an is one and the same, our Prophet is one and the same. We have all it needs to unite. We must love ourselves, inform our followers the importance of peace and unity.

And lastly, we should remember that holding the key of this imam leadership is not obligatory but accounting your activities before God while holding it is obligatory.

Your excellency, thanks once again for your achievements on security. May Allah, the Almighty accept our fasting. I wish you happy salah in advance.
