Only few Undergraduate University actually understand that there are three different types of NYSC Certificates.

The following are the Sample of the three NYSC Certificate and their reasons

Discharge Certificate and exemption  remains the most talked about, there is other one certificate from NYSC that are also legaly valid and generally accepted.  Below are the three of NYSC Certificates.

1. Discharge Certificate

2. Exemption letter –Certificate &

3. NYSC Exclusion letter- Certificate.

NYSC Discharge Certificate: 

The discharged certificate is the one issued to a corps member after (s)he has concluded the one year compulsory service.

It’s as simple as ABC… You graduate from higher institution; your school mobilises you and at the end of your service year – which is a year, you are issued with the discharge certificate.

NYSC Letter of Exemption Certificate: 

An exemption certificate is issued to someone who by law could not participate in the NYSC scheme despite the fact that such person attended a regular program in a University or Polytechnic program and graduated. 

In accordance with the National Youth Service Corps Decree 1993 section 2 subsection (1) it is stipulated that;

“With effect from 1st August, 1985, a person shall NOT be called upon to serve in the service corps if, at the date of graduation or obtaining his diploma or other professional qualification” :

A. He/She is over the age of Thirty (30) years.

B. He/She has served in the in the armed forces of the federation or the Nigeria Police Force for a period of more than Nine month; or

C. He/She is a member of staff of any of the following:

I. The Nigerian Security Organization or

II. The State Security Service or

III The National Intelligence Agency or

iv  The Defence Intelligence Service.

D. He/She has been conferred with any National Honour.

These categories of persons are therefore exempted from service and issued with the Certificate of Exemption.

Eligibility:

Nigerian Graduates either home or oversea trained who have the stipulated qualification of (B.SC, B.A or HND) from approved or accredited Institution by (NUC, NTBE or NCCE) are eligible for Exemption Certificate however while foreign trained graduates must submit their Certificates at the Mobilization Department for Evaluation.

NYSC Exclusion letter- Certificate:

Letter of exclusion is given to the third categories of candidates.  These candidates who are graduates but could not attend the regular programs in school. E.g Graduate from part time programmes, Sandwich, Long distance learning and so many other forms of irregular programs.

Just like others nothing much on this letter than your name, picture, school, course of study and the reason for been excluded.
