Aminu Ibrahim Babangida is a young billionaire with a very wealthy father. He is the youngest son of former Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida (IBB) and late Maryam Babangida.

His siblings are Mohammed, Aisha and Halima.

IBB's young family

As a member of the most popular and powerful family in the north and indeed Africa, Aminu could be said to be born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He grew up around luxuries only dreams are made of. Aminu is the last son of the famed Nigerian billionaire and former military president.

His father, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB) is one of Nigeria’s richest men who garnered military and political power post-colonization at a time when Nigeria unearthed her oil wealth.

Aminu is the spitting image of his father, although a darker version and people close to him say he is also savvy and intelligent like him.

As military head of state, IBB enriched himself and family with stupendous wealth that even his grandchildren yet unborn will not be able to finish. Babangida is a complex multi-dimensional character. His antecedents as a political leader as well as a military Head of State are well known.

Although, this article is not about the gap-toothed general, we cannot help but admire his power and influence on the Nigerian political scene.

He made sure he used his wealth to educate his kids in the best schools in the world. Aminu is one of his kids who is brilliant academically and has achieved quite a lot in the business world. Let’s checkout his profile.

His impressive profile

Aminu attended Regents Business School, London and Westminster Business School London where he obtained a BA in International Business and MA in International Business Management respectively.

He is an entrepreneur, a co-founder/chief executive officer of Phoenix Energy, Abuja and team member of the El-Amin International School, Minna.

Aminu has worked on the trading floor of Trafigura BV, London, UK and was appointed to the board of Unity Bank Plc in 2011. He has held Chairmanship and membership positions in a number of board committees including Credit Committee, Information Technology and Strategy Committee, etc.

He is knowledgeable in the field of oil exploration. He is a member of the Institute of Directors (IOD) and Bank Directors Association of Nigeria (BDAN) and has attended local and international courses.

In 2017, Aminu was appointed the new Chairman of Unity Bank after an approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria. Aminu is in his early 40s and that makes him one of the youngest bank chairmen in the country. Aminu was Vice Chairman, a position he attained because of his father’s investments in the bank. Unity Bank of Nigeria was once at risk of collapse, alongside the now defunct Skype Bank.

Aminu Ibrahim Babangida has the impressive profile of occupying two top positions as Chairman at Unity Bank Plc and also Chief Executive Officer for Phoenix Energy Ltd.

Why is this handsome dude not yet married?

With such impressive profile, it is still puzzling why this handsome dude is yet to be snatched by any of the beautiful daughters of fellow billionaires in the north at least. Or is his signature as a confirmed bachelor now a permanent feature?

Aminu Babanginda is a guy that could be described as every girl’s dream man. He is young dark, handsome and a billionaire- a combination that is quite irresistible to women.

He is endowed with everything that could make any young woman fall head over heels in love with him. Yet despite his undeniable appeal, he seems to be dodging the marriage institution much to the dismay of his family and friends.

Aminu seems to have sworn to live a life of perpetual bachelorhood. The current Chairman of Unity Bank seems to have decided to remove marriage from his plans, at least for now.

There are lots of speculations why he might have made up his mind to remain single. It is said that his older siblings, Mohammed and Aisha didn’t leave him with good examples to follow in the marriage department.

Both are divorced and had traumatic battles and sordid public fights that where quite distasteful. Perhaps that could have made him to be afraid to venture into the marriage institution.

Mohammed Babangida

Aisha Babangida

His two older siblings have been very unlucky in marriage. Both Aisha, first daughter, and Mohammed, first son, have been married twice … and divorced twice!

His youngest sister, Halima started matrimony as a third wife. She got married as the third wife of Sarkin Sudan Gombe, Alhaji Auwal Lawal Abdullahi in 2017.

Having witnessed first-hand how the unions of his older siblings unraveled, he is not in a hurry to get into the same situation.

Despite his background and success in his sphere of endeavor, Aminu has not been linked with any woman in recent past.

Though, middle of last year, there were rumours that he was unusually close to fellow billionaire daughter, Oluwafunsho Obasanjo, the daughter of former President, Olusegun Obasanjo.

Dr. Oluwafunsho Obasanjo

Dr. Oluwafunsho Obasanjo as she is known, obtained an M.Sc in Medicinal Chemistry, University of East Anglia and an MSc in Medicinal Chemistry from University College, London. She is also appointed as a Non-Executive Director in Unity Bank.

People have raised eyebrows concerning their closeness but it is not confirmed if their friendship is platonic or romantic.

Those who are familiar with the rapport between the children of the former presidents, however, insist “they really look good together”.

Both Aminu and Oluwafunsho currently serve on the board of Unity Bank – and some other businesses their parents have interests.

It has also been revealed by those closely watching him that one thing Aminu Babangida is known for is his hinted resolution to remain unmarried and that has got his close family members really worried.

According to ThisDay Newspaper, the young businessman has rebuffed all entreaties to tie the knot even though he is not getting any younger. He is reported to have told whoever that cared to listen that his focus for now is on taking Unity Bank to the next stage of greatness. He does not want to contend with any domestic issues that can distract him from this goal which he is pursuing with all the stamina he could muster.

It is gathered that relatives, close and distant, are pilling pressure on Aminu Babangida to pick a wife as he is not getting any younger but their efforts may not yield any positive result anytime soon, as the banking professional is not considering marriage, at least for now.

Relatives close and distant are pressing him to go out there and get a girl and have a few more Babangida princes and princesses for his aged father, IBB before he passes on. So far, these missions have failed.

Well, all hope is not lost. Hopefully post Covid-19 might bring good news in that direction. We can’t wait to see the lucky girl that will steal this dude’s heart and make him give up his bachelorhood. Still, there’s no telling what the coming months will bring; there just might be an exotic lady prepping to claim his hand. We sure hope so!
