Episode one

Eneye worked in a very big company in Abuja , he holds a high position in the company that he can easily help people if he wants to but he doesn't let people come close, whenever people seeking for employment in the company approach him for help he will turn them down especially if he they are from his home town. 

He will tell them that , there's nothing he can do about it because he is just a worker like everybody else, he will tell himself that , he can not help people who will later turn against him , he said once he helps them now and they become rich, they will not respect their senior again.

Infact Eneye doesn't speak his language whenever he is at his working place , when they speak language to him he will respond in English especially his junior colleagues whom he knows can easily approach him for help.

Eneye only speak language to those that knows him from the village and there's no way he will deny that he doesn't know them , and if they approach him for any employment assistance he will tell them that he is not in charge and there's nothing he can do about it, or he will give them force hope and at the end he will tell them that they changed the names at the last minute and there's nothing he can about it again.

Wheneve he gives appointment he will instruct his secretary to tell the person that he can not see anybody at that moment or that he travelled and he will not be returning to the country anytime soon , he keeps on giving excuses .

He holds a position that even with just a letter from him you will be employed in the company but he will not do that  , once you enter his office and greet him in Ebira , the next thing is for him to ask you in English what can he do for you and this is a working place so the only language that is allowed in here is the official language.

Eneye only mingle with people that can help him and not those that he can help, he is Married with kids , his wife and kids too doesn't associate with people from village apart from family members , even any neighbor that is not above or up to their standard is not their friend because according to him and his wife Ovayi , they only befriend people in their class.

Eneye and Ovayi including their three children speaks English language in their home , even most of the Ebira neighbors they have doesn't know that they are Ebira because you can hardly hear them speak language except when they receive visitors from the village.

Infact if you want to talk to Eneye about work and you want a good response even though he is not going to help, just speak English language because that will at least make him to listen to you before he will tell you that there's nothing he can do about it.

Episode two

Eneye has a neighbor, Onoruoyiza , Onoruoyiza is a graduate from a very poor background , he saw himself through to the university by doing minor jobs for people including his school mates, his mother is late while his father works  is a poor farmer and also a traditional healer but he doesn't heal people for money, he will only heal and said they should give him whatever they have but his herbs are very effective though he doesn't take that as a main job , he only helps when people approach him or when he a condition he knows that he can handle.

Since Onoruoyiza graduated from the University , things has not been easy for him , so he decided to remain in the city until he gets a job , he stays with his school make who lives close to the estate where Eneye lives , because he can not afford to rent an apartment in Abuja since he doesn't have a job.

Onoruoyiza has been going to him for help , he said even if it is security job he will do but he told him that getting a job now is not easy because there are so many people looking for jobs , he will tell him to bring his CV, but that his normal tricks because the CV will not see the light of day , and he keeps insulting the youths as being lazy yet he doesn't want to do anything to help them.

One day Eneye told Onoruoyiza to come and see him in the office after he has been disturbing him , but when he gets to the office he was not allowed to see him because he already told his secretary not to allow him in , so the next day, Onoruoyiza decided to meet him at home very early but when he gets there , he met a man, Itopa,  coming out of  the gate who claimed to be Eneye's cousin brother but one thing that surprised Onoruoyiza is that the guy is looking more poorer than him so he wondered how the brother of a man as rich as Eneye be looking this poor.

Onoruoyiza saw  Itopa coming out of Eneye's gate looking very angry , it was when they met and started talking that Onoruoyiza now realized that Itopa was his secondary School mate in the village ,  Itopa told Onoruoyiza that he has been here for more than a month now helping Eneye's wife to do house chores despite the fact that he is a married man but all he wants is for Eneye to help him gets a job but he will not , Itopa told him how Eneye abandoned all his family and the only person he knows is his wife.

Itopa told Onoruoyiza that since he graduated from the University five years ago , he has been searching for a job without any success and he has been coming to meet Eneye to help him get a job but he kept on posting him, he said when he got tired of come tomorrow or come today and when he gets to his office he will not be allowed to see him so he decided to come and meet him at home and since he came here, he has been working for his wife like house boy without even minding the fact that he is an in-law to her all because what he is looking for and he thought he was going to be lucky this time but only for Eneye to tell him this morning that the list that has his name on it has been changed at the last minute by a Superior officer and there's nothing he could do about it.

Itopa told Onoruoyiza that this is the same excuse he has been getting from him for the past five years, and he thinks that what Eneye's younger brother did was right by staying away from him and his family despite the fact that he lives here in  Abuja too.

Episode three

Onoruoyiza and Itopa talked for a while and Onoruoyiza also told him why he has come to see Eneye , Itopa told him not to waste his time because even the family members are not getting anything from him , Itopa told him that the only people he associate it are those in the community and above all those who can offer him help and not the ones he can help.

Itopa told Onoruoyiza that sometimes he will even collect money from people and told them that the person that is in charge wants to sell the slot , but when they pay , he will later tell them that the federal government has decided to do the recruitment themselves and whatever they have paid is not refundable .

Eneye is a very dubious man to the extent he extort young men who are desperately in need of jobs but he will not help them , he doesn't give anything for free even if it is supposed to be free Eneye will find a way to attach money to it because according to him once the poor gets the opportunity to be riched they will forget whoever that helps them.

Eneye has no sympathy for anybody that comes to him for help , including his wife family members , his young brother stays in the same city with him but he doesn't know where Eneye lives  because Eneye believes once you are getting too familiar with the poor they will start asking you for help especially the once from his home town .

Even his old school mates are not spared except the ones that has already made it in life , those struggling to make it are not his friends so that he will not help them, he has helped his rich friends to get jobs for their younger ones but he will not help his own family or even those from his village.

Since that day, Onoruoyiza and Itopa became close friends, Onoruoyiza decided to forget about Eneye after going to his office many times without having the chance to see him and if he goes to the house despite the fact that Itopa kept on discouraging him to stop going to his house but he will still go and the security man will tell him that he said he doesn't want to see anybody .

Whenever Eneye passes by and you greet him, he will only respond with the horn of his car , especially if he knows that the person is not as rich as he is , because of Eneye's character he has succeeded in acquiring so many enemies for himself that people even wish for something bad to happen to him .

Sometimes people wonder how come Eneye and his wife have so many things in common because even the wife is not in any way different from the husband , she likes to use people a lot for free without doing anything for them in return , she made life a living hell for Itopa the few weeks he spent with them and at the end he still didn't get the job.

One day, Eneye entered his office early in the morning and he started feeling a sharp pain in his legs , he thought it was just normal romantism and he applied balm to it but he was wrong.

Episode four

It was on a Monday morning , Eneye entered his office and immediately he sat down, he started feeling pains all over his leg joint , he applied balm thinking it was romantism but he was wrong because the more he applied the balm , the more pain he will feel , he managed to finish what he has to in the office for that day and he went straight to see his doctor immediately he left the office.

Eneye explained to his doctor how the leg started and he is still feeling the pains more and more , the doctor prescribed some pain relief for him which he went to get immediately  , he started using when he got home and he told his wife what happened to his leg and she said it must be as a result of stress.

Eneye started taking the drugs and he was getting better until after two days , when he was about leaving his house to go see a friend and the pains started again, this time it was a very severe one , he could not move his legs freely , his wife has to come and help him to be able to sit down , they called the doctor again immediately and he came to the house.

After examining him for some minutes he decided to prescribe something stronger than what he prescribed before and he started using again , it got better again after he took the drugs and he went by his normal activities again , he thought it was over until a two weeks later when the pain started again.

One thing about Eneye's leg pains is that, whenever it starts the pains  will always be stronger than the previous one so when it started again ,he decided to call his doctor again who advised him to go for an x-ray and he did but nothing was discovered so the doctor prescribed another drugs for him and he started taking them but instead of the pain to reduce it was getting worst.

Eneye can not longer go to the office again because the pain was somehow becoming unbearable, he said it is as if someone is giving him ingestion all over his legs but there's nothing wrong with the legs mere looking at it but he was feeling a very serious pain , the doctor was already confused about his condition because he has prescribed everything he knows and he is not getting better.

Ovayi too was getting confused about her husband's condition and she doesn't know what to do again , the leg is not swollen but yet he cries for pain like a baby , whenever they applied anything different to it , it will seems as if it is getting better and after some days it will come back again .

His doctor asked him to go for another x-ray again for the fifth time but still nothing was discovered , the only thing that they keep saying is that everything is normal but only Eneye can explain the kind of pain he was going through , the news of his ill health started getting to people and most of them are happy about it , because he has more enemies than friends of course since the number of the poor people in the society is more than the number of the rich.

It has gotten to a point where Eneye can not longer move around by himself without holding on to something , he has even started using traditional herbs but he is not seeing difference , because it will only stop for some days and continue again.

Episode five

Is now six months since Eneye has been battling with his leg pain and he is not getting better , he has been to so many hospitals and there's little or no changes , he has visited many herbal homes without any positive results or they keep giving him different herbal mixture or the other and they are not working for him.

One day after his wife sat down and thought for a while, she decided to call Eneye's younger brother Adavudi who also live in a remote village in Abuja , it has been more than five years since Eneye and Adavudi set their eyes on each other , when Adavudi graduated from the University , he went to his brother for help , he told him that there's no space for now , that he should look for something to be doing for now or better still he should come and stay with him and maybe something will come up but it was all a lie.

Ovayi turned Adavudi an intelligent graduate into a house boy despite the fact that him and Ovayi are of the same age , but Adavudi doesn't care about that and he was doing everything she wants for her , Ovayi asked the wash man to stop coming to work and Adavudi does everything in the house including washing of plates because at that time she also sent her house help away and she refused to get one since she already has Adavudi around.

 Eneye doesn't see anything wrong with what his wife is doing , each time he tries to complain to his brother or even remind him about his promise to help him get a job soon , Eneye will insult him and call him names that he doesn't want to help his family but he wants him to get a job for him , he will tell him how he rose to where he is now through hard work and Adavudi is complaining for just house chores.

Each time Adavudi try to remind him about the fact that he is a graduate and he is not getting any younger , he will tell him to go out there if he thinks getting a job is easy and see if he will get one , he told him that the reason why some Ebira boys are jobless today is because they think that they are wise and they don't want to be cheated , Adavudi kept doing the job of house boy without getting paid and he stopped complaining because he thought his appointment letter will soon be ready but it is in his dream.

Eneye kept on telling Adavudi how he worked in people's farm and building site just to pay his school fees unlike Adavudi who was lucky to get scholarship from secondary School up to university level, he will tell him stories about how he suffered to go to school after the death of their parents , he said that people are serving strangers just to get little job so what is the big deal if his younger brother help him in his house.

Adavudi's eyes became clear one day when his rich friend's younger brother who has just graduated from the University , came to the house to get an appointment letter of a job secured for him by Eneye in the same organization he has been saying there's no space , Adavudi was even more qualified for that job than the person he gave with the excuse that his friend has told him about it long before the guy even graduated , he told Adavudi to exercise patient that very soon something will come up , but it is a lie because that is the fourth person he will help  to get appointment for almost a year and half that Adavudi has been staying with him and serving his wife.

Adavudi packed his things and left the house since then he has not come to his house and Eneye and his wife too has not called him, after all, that was the plan that once he gets tired he will leave and not come back again , when Itopa told Adavudi about his plan to go and stay with him for help, Adavudi warned him about it, that he will end up serving them for free without getting anything from them but he said he wants to try his luck and he did but it ended the same way like Adavudi's case.

Let's see the response Ovayi will get from him if after five years the only reason why he is calling him now is to tell him that his brother has a problem.

Episode six

When Adavudi saw Ovayi's call , he picked it because he doesn't have there numbers again but immediately he found out she was the one who is calling, he tell her to leave him with his suffering, and asked her to call one of their rich friends because they will be in position to help after all he has nothing to offer them because he is just a private school teacher, so he dropped the call.

Truly Ovayi has called so many of their friends for help and for a possible solution but some of them have not even come to visit him nor suggesting a place that they can take the legs to, they kept on giving excuses that they are busy and some are not even around , of course the Rich are always busy so is not their fault.

Even some of his neighbors are happy that he is down because both spouse like showing off what they have, Ovayi like to intimidate people with whatever she has, despite the fact that she is not working, she likes to look very expressive especially when they invite her to any function, she will use the most expensive shoe and bags, she doesn't buy any ashoebi that is not expensive, she will just tell whoever brought it that she doesn't wear cheap things so through that behavior of hers she got on many people's nerves without knowing it because she was just catching her fun according to her.

Eneye is getting tired of taking herbal concoctions without any results, Ovayi told him that she called Adavudi and he refused to come and see them, he told her that she is just disturbing herself because there's no way Adavudi will no any place or anybody that can cure what is wrong with him, something that he has spent up to five million on and there's no results how will he (Advisor) have a solution, Ovayi said who knows maybe is the witches and wizards in their families that is attacking them.

One night the pain got so severe that ovayi could not cope alone, she could not carry him alone and he messed up the place he was lying down, he defecated on the bed and he stopped talking, Ovayi got scared and she ran out to call neighbors but they all told hee to go that they are coming but they didn't go, she was looking for someone to drive them to the hospital because she can not drive as a result of the fear that was already in her .

She called Adavudi again and he didn't pick, because this time around he has the number, it was then she decided to call Itopa, and after telling Itopa what happened he told her to call their numerous rich friends because they will be in a better position to help because there's nothing he can do about it, finally she was able to move him to the hospital with the help of the security man and the house help and he got a little bit better.

 Eneye decided to travel out of the country may be it will get better since he has tried almost everything and he is not been cured, they made arrangement and travelled to India, for three months he was there and they tried their best, he actually got better and they returned back to the country .

Instead of Eneye to change his character he didn't even the wife was busy making mouth telling people that they thought her husband will die but God has put everybody to shame, he resumed back to work and and everything went back to normal, he still didn't care about poor people or anything that has to do with them, he was living like he owns the whole world, he insult young guys who are struggling own their own without anybody to help them as being lazy, especially when they are from his tribe, he will say that they are claiming too wise that is why it is difficult for people to help them.

Three months after Eneye returned back to work, the leg started again and this time , he was rushed back home from work because he could not even work at all so they carried him home.

Episode seven

When Eneye's leg started again it was worst than before because this time, they are swollen and decaying , he can not move around , he has spent so much and he is not getting any result, his friends have abandoned him even his junior colleagues at work are happy because he doesn't help anyone, so they are happy that at least something is troubling him.

One day, Itopa and Onoruoyiza went to visit Adavudi, as they were talking, Adavudi told them that Ovayi called him sometimes ago and what she said, he said that the leg has come back again according what he heard from people but even though he is not happy with him, he is still his brother and he doesn't wish for any harm to come to him, Adavudi wished he knows where he could be cured if not for anything at least for the sake of their late parents.

Itopa also felt bad for him, they said with the attitude that they have put up with him now, there's no much difference between them and Eneye, the both of them decided to go and visit him the following day and Onoruoyiza said he will go with him and see if it something his father can do .

The next day, the three of them showed up at Eneye's house and he started crying immediately he saw them, even Adavudi could not help but cry after seeing his brother's leg, Ovayi too started crying and telling them how his friends has abandoned them, many of them have stopped coming to the house, they only call once in a while to ask wether she needs money but money is not what she needs but solution is what she needs right now, she told them that it is now that she knows money is not everything because with all the money they have, she doesn't not believe that she could be crying everyday like she is doing now.

Adavudi told his brother that he is only here because everybody can not have the same character so that is why he is here and not because of any of them, Onoruoyiza told them that his father might have a solution to the leg if God will but he is in the village except he can travel to meet him, Eneye was surprised that after all he did to Onoruoyiza he could still have pity on him .

Onoruoyiza told him that he is not helping him but he is helping his cousin brother Itopa who happens to be his secondary School mate so he is not doing it for him, Onoruoyiza told Eneye that the reason why Ebira land is full of thugs is because most of Ebira rich men have this same character, they prefer to help outsiders instead of their own people because they don't want anybody else to be like them.

Onoruoyiza said people like Eneye want the youths to be jobless so that they will be able to use them whenever they want to because if they are rich, they might not want to be their thugs again, as Onoruoyiza was talking Eneye was just crying, he knew Onoruoyiza was saying the truth but it hurts him that such a small boy is talking to him this way because of his character, he begged him to please help him that if gets better he will change.

Eneye said the reason why they have not travelled out again is because they have to him the last time he travelled that if the leg should come back again, they will have to take some part of the legs off by cutting it and he will have to remain on a wheelchair for the rest of his life. 

Episode Eight

The following day, five of them travel to the village to see Onoruoyiza's father, when they got there Onoruoyiza introduced Eneye to his father as an elder brother to his friends, when Adayi examine the leg for a while, he told him not to worry that he will be well, Eneye did not want to get his hopes high by believing him, he told the man that he has travelled to India because of this leg and there's no changes, he said he doesn't want to believe that what he went to India to find is here in his village.

When Onoruoyiza, Itopa and Adavudi including Adayi had left them alone, Ovayi told her husband that she is suspecting that this guys have brought them to the village to come and extort money from them probably as pay back for what they have done to them because if this Adayi has such a potent herbs, he should have made it by now how comes he still lives in this smelling mud house, he said as far as he is concerned, he is tired and will rather die than to travel back to India.

Ovayi said even her family has taken them to so many better looking places than this one and yet they could not cure him so what could this poor man possibly have that those big native doctors do not have, she said something is telling her that this guy's have brought them here just to suffer and nothing else, she said she can't survive two days in this kind of house without being admitted in the hospital, Eneye told her to be quite because people might be listening to her.

Truly Eneye has been to many big native doctor's places without solution because those taking them there, have so many things against them, they have actually been extorting them, they will just make arrangements with people and get something for them, at a very high rate which will not work because it is fake

The person that even duped him the most is his wife's cousin brother Anahi who once asked Ovayi for a very big money to execute a project but she refused because she has given him so much money before that he has squandered so he was looking for an opportunity to get back at his sister Ovayi, so when the leg problem came and Ovayi has taken him to so many hospitals without solution including many healers, he decided to pay them back for not giving him money despite the fact that they have the money.

Anahi told Ovayi that he knows a very strong medicine man at Abaji that can cure the legs only that his money is very expensive because many people from outside the country do patronize him, Ovayi told him that money is not the problem so he said he will take them there in two days time, before the two days, Anahi already made arrangements with his friends and they rented a very big apartment for just two days , he makes sure that the place looks very expensive because those are the kind of things they like, according to Eneye and his wife, if it is not expensive it is not original.

When they got there, the person told them that, his legs will be cured but it will cost him a lot of money because it is the hand work of the enemies and they will need to offer a lot sacrifices to appease the gods, he told them that they will need to buy nine cows, nine pigs, nine male goats, nine male dogs and some many other things, Anahi and his friends succeeded in duping Eneye 2.5 million naira and they gave them coconut oil mixed with dried cow feces which they use for two weeks without any results and the man told them that if he doesn't get better after two weeks it means that the spirit are still angry with him.

So that is why Ovayi is not sure about this because according to her if the man has a potent charm, he should be rich of course because it is not in her dictionary that people still do things for free, they thought everyone is like them who will use you or extort you and still will not help you.

Episode nine 

Few moments later, the guys joined them where they were sitting, Eneye asked Onoruoyiza hope his father will be able to help him and he said if God will, Onoruoyiza told Eneye not to care about how poor his father looks because he has been curing people for free, he told him that not everybody thinks about money before helping people, he told him that his father's house would have looked better if has been able to get a job but since he is his only son and he is still jobless there's nothing he can do about it.

When Adayi came back from where he went to get some herbs, he told Eneye that he will have to stay in the village with him for a month because there are things he will have to be applying on the legs by himself for a month, Ovayi said over her dead body will she stay in this God forsaken mud house that has no toilet for a week not to even talk of one month, she said there's no way that will happen, she told Eneye that, she told him that this guys want to make them suffer and he didn't not believe her if not how will this man suggest that someone of their status should stay in this house with him for a month.

As Ovayi was talking Eneye was just watching her like a mad woman that is displaying madness, Eneye told her that either it will work or not he will have to stay here, Ovayi said she will go back to the city and will be coming to check on him, Eneye was about to agree with her when Adayi told them that both of them will stay here if she wants her husband to get better because there are some things that she herself will be applying on the legs since he doesn't have another wife.

Ovayi said she is now convinced that someone sent this Adayi to her because if not how will Adayi suggest that she will stay in this place, Adavudi told Ovayi that not everyone is as dubious and wicked as she is so they have tried their best so it is now left for her if she wants her husband to get better so she should make her choice, she started crying that Eneye and his family have ganged up against her, she said they wants to kill her that is why they are suggesting that she should stay in this place for a whole month.

Eneye told Ovayi that is either she stays or she will leave the marriage because he has been a good husband to her and staying here with him for a month should not be a big deal, she started crying thinking she will be able to blackmail him into allowing her to leave for the city but it didn't work, Onoruoyiza and his friends arrange a room for them where they will be staying, there was no bed except mat but Ovayi could not take that so she begged Adavudi to please help them to get a bed in the village market and he did .

Ovayi's first night in the village was not funny at all, she said if not that she is experiencing this herself she would not have believe that people still live in this kind of condition, she has to use the public toilet, if she was to bet with her life that she will ever have this kind of experience she will bet because she thought money could solve all problems, she could not even catch a moment of sleep because of mosquitoes, she said people that live here are really trying.

Eneye begged Adavudi not to inform the other family members that he is around because he doesn't want any of them to laugh at him, throughout the night he was thinking about the kind of life he has lived, he do come to the village to attend occasions but he doesn't set foot in his family house so that they will not ask him for help or so that they will not stress him with their problems and again he thought that his family house is old and does not longer befit his status, instead of him to repair it to his new taste he abandoned where he was raised and make hotel his new home whenever he is in village for any occasion.

Episode ten

The end

The following morning, when Adayi was treating Eneye's leg, Eneye asked him what happened to his leg and Adayi told him it was the hand work of the evil doers, Eneye was shocked, he asked Adayi how it was possible because he thought the evil doers are his family members and so he stayed away from family house, he told Adayi that for the past fifteen years he has never slept in his family house because he was afraid of the evil doers.

Adayi laughed and told him that evil doers  exist everywhere and if they want to deal with you they will, whether they see you or not , he told Eneye to change his character if God should save him from this one, he told him to be nice to people whether he knows them or not, Adayi told him that witches and wizard exist everywhere and you can not run away from them, the best thing is for you to live your life in the way God wants you to live it and pray for protection.

Eneye told Adayi that he has really messed up, he told him that he was busy helping his rich friends without even remembering the poor family members or the poor from his village, Adayi told him to keep praying that it is only God that will heal him because he has no power to heal.

The guys left for the city and promise to come check on him soon, he begged Adavudi to stay with him a little in case they might need anything  he promised to make it up to him as soon as he gets better, Adavudi was feeling reluctant but Itopa and Onoruoyiza managed to convince him to stay, they told him to do it for their late parents and not for Eneye and so he accepted to stay.

Eneye's leg was healing faster than they expected, within fifteen days he was already started working without any support, Ovayi had no choice than to adapt to the village life, she felt sick within the first five days and Adayi prepared herbs for her and she was fine, One day Eneye called Adayi and told him how he refused to help his son to get a job and Adayi told him that he knows everything because his son told him,  Eneye was surprised, he asked Adayi how come he has been this nice to him, Adayi told him that God knows how he planned his things and so he can not treat him bad because of what he did to his son.

Eneye said if he has helped Onoruoyiza that time by now he would have probably put this house in order and today he would have seen a better place to lay his head in a situation like this, Adayi told him that people think once they do something good, they will not benefit from it but even if they don't benefit from it, their children or their grandchildren will.

Within twenty days Eneye was perfectly okay and Adayi said he can go back to the city any moment from now, Eneye was happy, he said what he went to India to find right in his village and he didn't know it because of his character, he said if he has helped Onoruoyiza when he came to him for help, he would have been around when this leg started and he would have brought him to his father's place earlier.

Eneye left for the city two days later which was the 22nd day, but before he left, he went to his family house, he visited them and accessed the house, they were so happy to see him after such a long time because before if he comes to the village he will just greet everybody and tell them that he will be back in the evening but he will not, but this time he sat down and talk to them like a family for the first time.

Immediately he got to the city and resume back to work, he got a contractor to renovate his family house and adayi's house the same time, he got a job for Onoruoyiza in the same organization where he worked and got also for Itopa and Adavudi in other organizations with the same salary structure, he changed his attitude towards his colleagues and the poor people around him, him and his wife now give people things and associate with everybody regardless of their financial status .

He now go to the village often and even if he will not sleep in his family house, he will spend quality time with them and discuss with them like family, Eneye and Ovayi change their ways and they started helping the poor.
