Did Col. Dasuki Play Any Roles In The Arrest Of Buhari In 1985 Coup That Removed Him as Head Of State?

Arguably the most peaceful coup to happened in Nigeria, on August, 27, 1985, a group of Majors stormed the famous Dodon barrack, the former official residence of Nigeria's Head of State, located in Victoria Island, Lagos, and arrested Major General Muhammadu Buhari, who was then the Head of State and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The coup was nickname as the 'palace coup,' and remain among the bloodless coup to happened in the country. The coup happened less than two years after Major General Muhammadu Buhari assumed power, the same group of soldiers that toppled the government of President Shehu Shagari are the ones that also toppled Major General Muhammadu Buhari's regime.

Among the IBB boys that stormed Dodon Barrack for the coup, 3 Majors were said to carry out the arrest, by going directly into the President's chalet and arrested Buhari.

1.Colonel AbdulMumini Aminu: The retired military officer openly said that he is the one that led the other Majors that arrested Buhari, he stated that the other 2 Majors are Colonel John Yahaya Madaki and Colonel Lawal Gwadabe, he also stated that he was the one that went upstairs and brought General Buhari under arrest, while the remaining 2 Majors were waiting downstairs, the interview was ensured by media outlet, Daily Trust, on August, 9, 2015.

AbdulMumini was appointed the Governor of Borno State after the coup, and was made the Chairman of Nigerian Football Association by late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, after his retirement.

The retired Colonel was letter into partisan politics and was a serving member of People's Democratic Party, between 2007 and 2011, when his former boss, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida was running for the seat of the President.

The Katsina State born former army Colonel is residing between Katsina and Kaduna States.

2.Colonel Lawal Gwadabe rtd: The former Army Colonel was appointed as the Chairman Nigerian Shipping line after the coup, and was subsequently appointed as the Governor of Niger State in 1987, by President Ibrahim Babangida, and spent 5 years on the seat. He was letter appointed as the Chief of Staff to the Gambian President, before the coup of 1994, that brought Yahaya Jammeh to power.

He was appointed upon coming back to the country as personal staff officer to the Commander in Chief, General Sani Abacha, and was doubled as the commandant Brigade of Guards.

Colonel Gwadabe was alledged to be involoved in the coup of 1995, and was arrested and detained by the regime of General Sani Abacha.

However, after the death of Abacha he was given a State pardon together with the other alledged coup plotters, by the regime of General Abdulsalami Abubakar .

Colonel Gwadabe was appointed as the Chairman Federal Road Safety Commission governing board, in 2009, by late President Umaru Musa Yar'adua, and served until 2013. The former military administrator was later ventured into oil and gas business, he is the Chairman of North- Eastern integrated oil services and have shares in some other oil and gas companies.

Colonel Gwadabe rtd. is also the Chairman of New Arewa Vision Initiative.

3.Colonel John Yahaya Madaki: The former military administrator was among the IBB boys that participated in the palace coup, at the time he was the commanding officer 123 Guard Battalion at Ikeja, Lagos.

He was appointed as the military administrator of Katsina State in 1989, by his boss General Ibrahim Babangida, and served until 1992 when he handed over to the democratically elected Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Saidu Barda.

After retirement Colonel Madaki held many positions such as Chairman FCT Christians Board, Chairman Security and Exchange Commission, and latter in 2009 as the Special Adviser to the Honourable Minister of the FCT on security matters.

The retired army Colonel died on January, 08, 2018 after a brief illness in Abuja
