The Apex Military Training Institution, Nigerian Defence College(NDC) Abuja has appointed Prof Adam Okene Ahmed, a professor of security history, conflict resolutions and International Studies as College Provost. He contested with other 8 candidates in the various processes, the climax of which was presentation and interview. The Hon Minister of Defence, Gen Bashir Magashi approved the recommendations made to him by the Chief of Naval Staff and the College Commandant. Prof Okene Ahmed is going to NDC with huge experiences, high profile, expertise and global visibility in Defence, Security Leadership & international studies. He headed Dept of History & War Studies at NDA Kaduna, transformed the Nigerian Defence Academy's Postgraduate School where he served meritoriously for 7 years giving the school high level standard and global profile. Ahmed also acted for some months in 2020 as Academy Provost of the Nigerian Defence Academy when he was replaced by non- qualified professor who did not participate in the process. Before this appointment, he was the Academy's Director of the Directorate of Linkages & Collaboration where he created several military related programmes and attracted funds to the Academy. He had involved in almost all academic activities including chairing several NUC accreditation panels to Universities. Prof Ahmed was the Pro- Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Kogi state University for 3 years where with other chairmen of the state tertiary Institutions brought sanity to the Institutions of the state. For academic and security reasons, he was in the UK top three Military academies, USA where he studied Critical Thinking, Malaysia, South Africa among others. Prof Ahmed chaired Southsouth panel of the 2012 NEEDS assessment to public Universities. He was a member of the Presidential Research Committee during president Obasanjo's regime and a member of the President Musa Yar'adua's Presidential Police Task Force that established Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil in 2009. Prof Adam Okene Ahmed who is resuming at the Apex Strategic Military Institution at the time of its transition into Defence Postgraduate University is expected to bring his wealth of accomplishment to transform the College's Centre for Strategic Research & Study which is a centre of excellence for peace support operations for ECOWAS.

His words when a New Academy Provost of Nigeria Defense academy was appointed after he was interviewed and waiting his confirmation, on greatest surprised Professor Isa Garba was appointed. He said God's time is the best. When his time comes to head an institution no one can change it, as a displinarial and academy per excellent he went back to his former  office as director Linkages and Collaboration and respect the constituted authority patiently waiting for Allah's time and blessing.

Before his appointment as the Provost of National Defence College, Abuja. He was the Director, Directorate of linkages and Collaboration, Nigerian Defence Academy NDA, Kaduna, and once an Acting Academy Provost of Nigerian Defence Academy.

BIOGRAPHY

Prof. Adam Okene Ahmed Abere was born in to  distinguish Islamic scholar of Abere family on 28th December, 1963, his elder brother is the current Chief Imam of Ebiraland Sheik Salihu Muhammed Abere.

Professor Adam Okene Ahmed Abere attended Native Authority School Okene between 1969-1975) and proceeded to Ihima Community Secondary School, Okehi in the year 1975-and have his WAEC in the year 1980.

Between 1981 and 1983 he attended Kwara State College of Technology and School of Basic Studies, Ilorin and later Bayero University, Kano between 1984 – 1987 where he obtained bachelor Degree (BA) in History as the best graduated Student.

He became a Professor in 2009 after rose through the rank of Assistant Lecturer, Lecturer II, Lecturer I, Senior Lecturer, Principal Lecturer, Chief Lecturer and Associate Professor from 1992.

He study language studies at Kaduna Center for Usthman Danfodio Institute for Arabic Studies between the year 2000 to 2002 also in University Utara Malaysia (UUM) (2010-2011). He was at the Foundation for Critical Thinking, USA in 2015.
