THE CHANGING TRENDS OF KIDNAPPING IN EBIRALAND

Kidnapping had been in practice before now except that it is now direct money making venture. I can remember in those days when kidnapping was associated with minors (under age) hence the ebira version of the Yoruba word for kidnapping ibomobomo i.e. kinap of children. The perpetrators then were non-natives as they penetrate the community targeting children ignored by parents or children whose parents have non-challant attitude towards child care. It was then assumed that children kidnapped were used for money making rituals with active the connivance of spiritualists. The actual benefactors then were the money bags whose trade in stock was making money at all cost. The active kidnappers were just errand men and women who take stipend for their service. This crude method is now refined to it's current digitalized method taking advantage enhanced telecommunication negatively. The kidnappers now dictate how much they want to take as ransome subject to negotiation. Too, this day kidnapping  takes place with active connivance of people in the community as informants. Then kidnaping was a heinous crime that security agents don't take lightly and pursue with all sense of commitment as they were adequately equipped to confront the criminals. These days, the criminals carry arms more sophisticated than the security agents. This account for what people take for role compromise and in some cases associating the security agents with the crime. As it is now, war against kidnapping is all inclusive ones requiring inputs from all and sundry especially residents within community. All hands must then be on deck.
