SUSPENSION SUIT: SENATOR NATASHA SHAKES COURTROOM AS JUDGMENT DATE IS SET up

So I was in court today, live and direct, seated like a proper observer of Nigerian democracy on trial. Trust me, you didn’t need popcorn to watch how the drama was served hot, seasoned, and garnished with legal pepper soup.
From the moment the Justice Binta Nyako walked in, you could tell somebody wasn’t ready to play mummy to grownups who’ve been dragging a matter like an audition. She looked at the endless documents the respondents had dumped before the court and you could almost hear the question in her eyes: “Is this a case or a festival of paperwork?”

The judge didn’t waste our time as her mood today was something between fed up and focused. She said… “Too many processes from the respondents compared to the plaintiffs. Please, this matter is getting out of hand.”

As the respondent was about defending the indefensible in order to disrupt the proceedings, the judge landed the hot slap of the day:
“I’m not adjourning anything today.”
Ladies and gentlemen, the courtroom shifted. People were adjusting their wigs. Me, I nearly clapped but I remembered that I was in court, not a motivational liveshow. So I just sat there like, Omo, finally we’re entering the main meat of this case.

Now, remember that contempt charge they filed against Natasha all because of her satirical letter that exposed the hypocrisy in her suspension?
My people, they quietly withdrew it today like thief wey forget say CCTV dey. The defense counsel told the court, “My Lord, we are withdrawing the process.”

Ah, e shock me o, as much as it shocked the courtroom. It was giving: if you can’t beat her, back off slowly before you disgrace yourself further.

And yeah! Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan was physically present in court, seated calmly, facing her accusers with the grace of a lioness.
Meanwhile, the other party as usual was absent. Only their legal paperwork came to court. Imagine filing fire, but not showing up to feel the heat.
Anyway, the judge didn’t waste time. She fixed June 27 for judgment. No more delays but a clear path to what may be one of the most symbolic courtroom victories in Nigeria’s gender political history.

As I walked out of that courtroom, I smiled because I saw a woman standing tall in the face of an orchestrated humiliation, refusing to apologise and refusing to become the good girl they can control.

What stood out today was Natasha’s courage and presence. Whether you love her or hate her, Senator Natasha is not the type you suspend into silence. She is not your regular politician. She’s fire, clothed in brains, walking through the aisle of power barefoot and unafraid.

While they pushed media boys to spread propaganda, she walked alone into a courtroom, unafraid.

June 27, the truth will speak. That day we will see if Nigeria will honour the courage of a woman who refused to be a footnote, or, if the system will once again shield impunity.

Till then, let’s keep watching, because this movie, my people, is far from over.
As you talk your talk, spread this gist.

Na silence go shock them pass.

I am ILUO DePOET
