IHIMA "The Wicked People"
I laugh anytime I hear people keep saying Ihima people are wicked, dont associate with them, dont marry their women and dont give your daughters to them in marriage. Who are the Ihima?
Ihima is a location under the Okehi Local Government of Kogi State, the people of Ihima that we have today are the descendant of Adayi Onotu Ihimima, a man who was the last born of the father of Anebira Opete Adayi Itaazi and onyayi Upayi the mother of Anebira.
Onotu from his early childhood was known to be strong, brave, intelligent and a wise man. He moved to settle at a place called Irukuozeyihi now corrupted as Ikuehi. Onotu had six sons who formed the today's clans in Ihima with Emani as the eldest and Idu Oha as the last born.
Now how are the Ihima people wicked?
Anyone who must have had close relationship with Ihima will know that these very people have the Ebira trait of not easily succumbing to be given unfair treatment, they are brave, not betrayers and always bouyant to speak the truth to your face.
The Ihima people wickedness tag begun on the day the father of Ihima Onotu took the responsibility of taking care of their aged mother who was dumped by his other brothers who were out to go for hunting, the other brothers had believed that Onotu came to take the responsibility of their mother just to make him look like he's the best among them while the rest of them are evil. The other event that led to tagging them wicked was when the colonial masters had came to introduce taxes on women of Ebiraland, an action which the Ihima people stood boldly to oppose while others agreed to pay the tax, the other people later saw Ihima people to be claiming wiseness and not willing to adhere to the rules just for the women to pay taxes, this action of Ihima women was a replica of the Aba women riot of 1929.
Watch out for part 2.
